158 Whale Beach Road, Whale Beach

  • 158 Whale Beach Road
  • This impressive home of four levels is constructed in brick and concrete with a copper roof. A major excavation was initially required – 12m deep x 25m wide, which entailed 4 months of digging and securing piers.

Connecting each of the four levels is the circular staircase which has curved and raked glass and a handcrafted timber handrail. A lift is also included for easy access to each level. A stunning feature is the swimming pool which is situated on the second level and is totally independent of the house. The pool sits on a 50mm rubber shock absorber so that no vibration is felt in the house. There are four king size bedrooms with ensuites which are tiled with Calcutta marble slabs. The cinema is complete with subtle fibre optic lighting which gives a twinkling star effect. The open plan living /dining area opens on to one of the graduated decks where extensive beach views can be enjoyed. The kitchen comprises the latest integrated appliances. As the owner is a car enthusiast, a 6 car garage was included and the driveway has a vehicle turntable. An outdoor fireplace and sitting area on one level and outdoor kitchen on another ensures plenty of options for alfresco living.

Good communication with the client and architect and attention to detail has ensured a quality finish to this challenging project.

130B Pacific Road

  • 130C Pacific Road
  • 130B Pacific Road was designed with its neighbor by renowned architect Susan Rothwell.

Hand-hewn sandstone was extensively used and compliments the natural surrounds of dappled shade from the large Angophora stress and local bush rock. The fireplace boasts a sandstone block which took 8 men to place and stunning 4.5 metre tall sliding glass doors open to a merbau timer deck. This leads to a 2m deep spa that you can see through from the entertainment room on the lower level.

Limestone flooring was used throughout the living area, terrace and bathrooms. Under-floor heating keeps feet warm in the bathrooms during the cooler months. A magnificent cathedral ceiling was handcrafted in blackbutt timber and is softly illuminated at night by imported copper lantern style lights. The study loft overlooks the living area and beyond to the inspiring view outside.

The Rural Fire Service placed tight restrictions on the use of exterior materials permitted, however these restrictions were met and even enhanced through creative use of natural materials such as sandstone and limestone.
